Born in Canada, raised in New Zealand, and a resident of Texas for much of the past 10 years, Joel Fountain has always had an appetite for diversity. He holds a bachelors degree in jazz arranging, and at one time toured the world as the drummer for high-note trumpeter Maynard Ferguson. His first CD 'saturn return' is an eclectic mix of modern instrumental compositions that was highly acclaimed by jazz fans. Now in the final stages of completing his second CD, it looks to be a complete and stunning departure from his humble jazz beginnings. Returning to his childhood love of folk, pop and rock music, Joel is using his voice, piano, and drum skills to propel a unique assortment of original songs. He is Assisted by the wonderful guitar and production talents of Erik Herbst. Joel and Erik met while Joel was working as an intern at Erik's studio in Texas, and their time spent working together on many different projects has enabled them to collaborate with a beautiful singular vision. It is a very, very, very unique and exciting project, and we hope to keep you informed on it's process and future release date (expected spring of 2008).
